Selmer Reference 54 Alto Saxophone

This highly sought-after Selmer Reference 54 Alto is in great shape and is ideal for any advanced or professional player. Played regularly in various big bands and jazz groups this fantastic instrument is an absolute pleasure to play. Fantastic big Mark VI sound with great intonation and ergonomic keywork.

The body and keys do show various scratches, pitting and signs of general use but there is no major damage and the instrument plays exceptionally well. Hiscox shaped case included. No mouthpiece.

The Selmer website states

“Reference” is a new Selmer Paris concept which combines acoustic or ergonomic characteristics of several famous previous Selmer Paris models with the qualities of today’s top design and manufacture.

The “Reference” series currently proposes two saxophone versions : Reference 36 and Reference 54.

Each model has a specific tone colour: the “Reference 36” features a rich, open tone, in the tradition of “Balanced Action” first released in 1936. The more centred “Reference 54” incorporates the famous “Mark VI” design, which came out in 1954.
