642 Selmer "Radio Improved" Alto sax
Silver plated Selmer “Radio Improved” Alto Saxophone.
Dated around the late 1930’s this rare model saxophone came after the “Cigar Cutter” and before the “Balanced Action”. This wonderful saxophone belongs to the "Selmer Super Series" or "SSS” and was conceived especially for radio orchestras due to improved intonation and sound. It is said that only 2000 were ever made in the Selmer-Paris factory.
This instrument plays perfectly with a beautiful clear mellow sound. All the leather pads seal perfectly and intonation is excellent - arguably better than many modern instruments.
A stunning silver plated example which would suit any advanced player or make a wonderful addition to any serious saxophone collection. The decorative engraving shows no wear and stands out clearly. The silver plating is in excellent condition showing very little wear.
The instrument will be sold in a Reed and Squeak lightweight case which also accommodates a clarinet. The original case will also be supplied. No mouthpiece.
Currently in the workshop having a full overhaul. Ready for testing soon.
