179C Selmer "Radio Improved" Alto Saxophone
179C Selmer "Radio Improved" Alto Saxophone
Vintage Selmer-Paris “Radio Improved” Alto Saxophone.
Dated around the mid 1930’s this rare model saxophone came after the “Cigar Cutter” and before the “Balanced Action”. This wonderful saxophone belongs to the "Selmer Super Series" or "SSS” and was conceived especially for radio orchestras due to improved intonation and sound. It is said that only 2000 were ever made in the Selmer-Paris factory.
This instrument plays perfectly with a beautiful clear mellow sound. All the leather pads seal perfectly and intonation is excellent - arguably better than many modern instruments.
Played for many years in professional UK Orchestras and West End shows by one of the UK’s leading saxophonists who has decided to reduce their collection of fine professional instruments.
A stunning example which would suit any advanced player or make a wonderful addition to any serious saxophone collection. The gold lacquer is believed to be original and shows some wear as can be seen on the photos. The decorative engraving shows no wear and stands out clearly.
The instrument will be sold in a Reed and Squeak lightweight case which also accommodates a clarinet. No mouthpiece or original case.
