298 Conn "Vintage" Baritone Saxophone "Rolled Tone-Holes"
This beautiful vintage Saxophone is a superb example of the Conn Baritone sax series. This is the model that came before the “Crossbar”.
Dated around 1924. Rolled Tone-Holes. Stunning playing condition
All the pads seal perfectly and the sax plays from top to bottom absolutely effortlessly. Recently completely overhauled with new pads, felts and corks etc. This instrument plays as well (or better) as any modern instrument on the market today. This one, however has a unique sound with its own voice and character.
This saxophone is Low pitch (A=440 Hz) and can easily be played in modern ensembles. It has an amazingly full, rich sound with good intonation.
The body has much work over the years but it is free from major dents. There are a few small dents, scratches and imperfections. There are also some areas where re-soldering has been attended to. The neck has no pull-down. It also has the octave mechanism tube on the neck. This is currently being re-positioned to so that the playing angle is more comfortable. The original case is showing serious signs of damage inside and out so the instrument will be sold in a Reed and Squeak lightweight case. No mouthpiece.
