246C Eb Clarinet from the estate of Colin Bradbury

£950.00

Eb Clarinet played by the legendary clarinettist Colin Bradbury.

There is no makers stamp or serial numbers. We suspect that this Eb clarinet was a prototype from the Boosey and Hawkes factory. The keywork is similar to other Boosey and Hawkes instruments of the era. A truly fabulous instrument that has had a lifetime of professional use. All pads seal well and the wood is showing no cracks. A Vandoren mouthpiece is included along with a period case.

From the estate of the legendary British clarinettist Colin Bradbury:

Colin Bradbury, Principal Clarinet with the BBC Symphony Orchestra from 1961 to 1993. Born in Blackpool, he was a founder member of the National Youth Orchestra of GB before entering the Royal College of Music to study with Frederick Thurston. His tenure at the BBCSO spanned the conductorships of Sir Adrian Boult, Rudolf Schwarz, Pierre Boulez, Rudolf Kempe, Günter Wand and Sir Andrew Davis.

As an RCM Professor he went on to teach many of the next generation of British clarinettists and together with pianist Oliver Davies he researched, recorded and published a wealth of 19th and early 20th Century repertoire. His face, already familiar to Last Night of the Proms TV audiences, gained film recognition as an actor in ‘Quartet’ (2012). He is survived by his wife, flautist Janet Forbes, and their five children.
