Absolutely stunning pair of Boosey and Hawkes 1010 clarinets.

These fabulous instruments were played professionally in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra by prinicipal clarinet legend Prudence Whittaker. Hand selected from the Boosey and Hawkes factory in Edgware, London by the famous Brian Manton-Myatt, who had designed the 926 and 1010 clarinets for B&H. This pair were purchased new in 1963, and were used through the majority of her career.

Silver plated and leather padded. These really are superb instruments. One barrels, A. Gigliotti 1010 bore mouthpiece and vintage case included. 

Wonderful sweet old-English sound. Fantastic wood with a beautiful rich grain showing no cracks and only one slight surface scratch. The silver plating is perfect.

These are early 1010's without the "Acton-Vent key" considered by many to be superior to the later models.

In common with many top professional players, Whittaker’s 1010’s have had various improvements made, including undercutting certain tone holes and adding shellac in some of the tone holes to improve intonation. This work was carried out to the highest standards and improves the instruments enormously.

The original case is present. This fine pair of 1010’s are were played in numerous performances and recordings, including the first performance of Sebastian Forbes Concerto for Clarinet, with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
